All-terrain side table

2026 | LASER-ENGRAVED FOLDING WOOD SIDE TABLE | 26 × 20 × 14 INCHES

The BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tire tread appears everywhere on O‘ahu: on Tacomas, 4Runners, local vehicles. People might not consciously recognize it, but they know it.

For this sculpture, I transferred that pattern onto a folding tray table, etching something that normally circulates across asphalt, dirt roads, and beach parks into a domestic object. It mashes up mobility and being at home.

The tread, which usually mediates between vehicle and ground, is now mediating something else. It’s still about contact, but the grip is domestic. The violence or necessity of traction becomes something like the background texture of daily life. Or maybe the relationship of people to land is present in that pattern more generally, perhaps as a way of being or survival. For some, the tread might be what life here looks like.
