Local Order

2023-PRESENT | STENCILS ON VARIOUS SURFACES | DIMENSIONS VARIABLE

Local Order is an ongoing series of stenciled images, such as no parking signs or fruit branches, spray-painted onto surfaces built from layered brown paper bags and other improvised surfaces. The process sets up a friction between the image and its ground: the stencil delivers a clunky clarity, but the surface resists it. Paper seams, folds, and soft edges interrupt the crispness of the spray, turning these everyday signs of authority and culture into something more provisional.

The works explore how local orders, such as rules, habits, ways of seeing, are both imposed and improvised. They are functional and fragile, directive and disposable.
